addendum

so the perfect day that was yesterday ended on an even more perfect note.

the power went off. mel went ahead and, in the dark, made her fabulous guacamole and picante sauce. she even fried up some chappats so we had chips and dip! we sat around her table, candles glowing... michael (art teacher), peter, douglas, antwain (mel's son), petra (mel's ugandan daughter), mel and me. the warmth of our friendship and the laughter that rang out was matched only by the deliciousness and awesomeness of the tasty treats.

then to top it all off, there was a recent photo of my grandson, henry, waiting for me in my email. there are photos of henry pasted (along with all the members of team 4) on the wall outside the dining area. the little children here grab my hand, run with me to the pictures, point to him and call out "baby henry, baby henry!" (just in case i have forgotten his name.) well, of course, this is the sweetest thing possible. at any rate, seeing his precious face last night just before i fell exhausted into bed was the most perfect ending to a perfect day.
