the young artists of st. mary kevin orphanage motherhood

Here is some of the wonderful artwork made by the children at St. Mary Kevin’s. You will be able to bid on these, once matted and framed, at the Change the Truth benefit on June 12th at the downtown Kansas City Public Library. (If you are not on the CTT mailing list yet, please email me with your info so that you will be sure to receive all the details.) gbfeinstein@aol.com

At the suggestion of a blog reader, I will turn some of these drawings/paintings into note cards. These will also be available at the June event.

Lonnie and Jane gave the young artists several assignments over the course of our time there. One was to draw the person sitting across from you. One was to draw a view from the forest or jungle, from any vantage point you chose (you could be a grasshopper or an ant or a bird, etc.). Another was to draw yourself doing a favorite activity. These talented teachers encouraged the kids to fill the page, to include interesting backgrounds and to mix and layer their colors effectively.

The results are, well, see for yourself…

We are so happy for all that we have seen and read over the last several weeks. What wonderful outcomes. Hopefully it will leave lasting changes in the attitudes of all involved.

The whole journey was a beautiful idea distilled down to the essence of soulfulness. Art and play are critical areas of personal development, expression and freedom, and your efforts most noble. We commend you all. Take Care.

Love,
Steve, KJ, and Aitugan

Kudos to each of you. I have looked forward each day to reading about your work in Uganda. I am impressed that you accomplished so much in such a short time. Your lives, and those at the orphanage, were surely enriched by the experience.
