news from change the truth

There are lots of new and exciting things going on in the Change the Truth world. Time to catch up!

Jackie, Rebecca and Elizabeth, CTT friends from Middle Tennessee State University, leave Friday for their long awaited/much anticipated journey to Uganda! They will send blog posts and photos during their two-week stay, so please stay tuned for those. If you missed the first post about their trip, you can read it now.

Our own Dawn Taylor, volunteer extraordinaire and member of Team 5, Team 7 and Team 8, will be honored in front of 1000 attendees at a luncheon on May 7th when she receives a "rising star of philanthropy" award! The well-deserved award will be presented to Dawn by Non-Profit Connect, Kansas City's networking and education organization for nonprofit organizations.

The Five Stars with their Dutch music buddies

"The Five Stars" music group from St. Mary Kevin has arrived in Amsterdam and is shaken' the place up! The group is made up of three CTT sponsored students - Tonny, Rose and Oscar, as well as Claire and Emison. Monique, our talented and generous Dutch friend who was a member of Team 5, raised funds from her own foundation to underwrite the cost of the trip for these kids. You can imagine how excited everyone of them is about this life-changing experience. They get to travel to another part of the world, perform in front of many different audiences, work and play alongside their Dutch buddies in an ongoing music exchange and expand their knowledge of music and culture. What an amazing opportunity this is for them!

The name with which we have been so familiar all these years, St. Mary Kevin ORPHANAGE MOTHERHOOD, has now been changed to St. Mary Kevin CHILDREN'S HOME. A new Ugandan ruling, as of January 2014, states that "no home should be called an orphanage." The word, the government feels, has negative connotations towards children.

Our next fundraiser will take place at Hamburger Mary's in Kansas City on Saturday, May 10th! It'll be a fun night of terrifically irreverent bingo with prizes and a 50/50 raffle. The games begins at 5:00 and last until 7:00. Hamburger Mary's is located at 101 Southwest Boulevard. You will have a blast at this event. Hope to see you there!

Eva

Aria

And last, but certainly not least, we have two babies in the CTT family! The first, lovely little Eva, was born to "Strings for Uganda" parents Lindsey and Nick back in March. And just yesterday, David (Team 4) became the papa to beautiful Aria Grace. CONGRATULATIONS!

Big news at CTT all around.
