When I visited St. Mary Kevin Orphanage for the first time in 2006, the kids sang lots of songs for me. There was one that really stuck in my head, and I kept singing the chorus over and over again, even once I was back in Kansas City. The song was written by a teacher at SMK. Here are the words:
Dear
visitors, we thank you for coming here
And
visit St. Mary Kevin, we really thank you all
We
appreciate the brotherhood heart
You’ve
showed to us and Africa at large
We
only pray that you come again
Chorus
We
can only say
We
cannot change the truth
We
can only say welcome
Dear friends, we welcome you to Uganda a place of peace,
A
place that loves all
We
feel good, having you with us
As
we sing, dance and clap and rejoice with you
Taking
it at heart that we are really friends
Chorus
We
can only say,
We
cannot change the truth,
We
can only say welcome
St. Mary Kevin, is a school in Uganda
A
school that loves you,
A
school that welcomes all
Your
coming here is really a blessing to the school and the orphanage that we
have…..
We
only pray that you come again
Madam
Rosemary is the director of our school
We
do appreciate her, for the love she has for the children
It’s
not easy finding one like her with a heart that loves and welcomes all
Getting
us a friend like you is a blessing
We
can only say
We
cannot change the truth
We
can only say welcome
Why the name? Because I figured we really could change their truth. Now you know!!

CTT has indeed changed the truth for hundreds of young people at St. Mary Kevin. And that song is a treasure. - DT
